Robot in the house

18.6.2018

Maustaja is involved in the OAMK's Tehoja project, which examines the prerequisites for cost-effective production automation in the area's business life.

In the Productivity through Flexible Automation – TEHOJA project Oulu University of Applied Sciences looks for applications for the latest robots. In addition, they study how new robots are both cost-effective and flexible for small and medium-sized serial production, and also what cost-effective use requires from a company. The project is funded by the Northern Ostrobothnia Federation and the EU.

The project apprentices at Maustaja investigated the possibility of automatic packing of goblets with a robot. Two OAMK students planned and built a prototype. The robot is suitable for working with a person without a safety zone and is equipped with a gripper required by the application. The project has progressed on schedule and prototype production testing was done under authentic conditions during the first week of June.

Mutual benefit

Collaboration with schools and colleges is important for Maustaja from many different perspectives. Collaboration is beneficial to both sides when students get to solve real world challenges for the company. The school and the teachers get good practical teaching examples from authentic business situations, and for the students it is inspiring and rewarding to see their work put into practice. Maustaja, in turn, gets the latest theory based solutions and the company gets presented as a potential future employer for young people.
