Since 1972

Autumn 1972 municipality of Pyhäntä made a far-reaching decision. It decided to establish a company which would give work to the wives of timberwork men living in Pyhäntä and which also would refine rawmaterials available from neighbourhood. Business was started with the company name Pyhännän Einestuote Ltd. with some local people as partners.

Breakthrough with ketchup

The first product was roasted onion. The actual breakthrough was however achieved year 1974 by starting manufacturing ketchup. During couple of years Maustaja became the leading ketchup manufacturer in Finland and has maintained this position since then.

Product range becomes larger

New product groups were developed in a fast schedule. When manufacturing potato chips a own trade mark was even experimented. Year 1977 mustards were added into the product range and during 1980’s product range included also jams and frostings. Later on salad dressings, mayonnaise and sport drinks were included.

Remarkable Scandinavian

Maustaja has grown to be a remarkable Scandinavian contract manufacturer. It has over 50 employees and its present management is very much involved in the ownership of Maustaja. Ketchups, mustards, salad dressings and jams are the largest product groups.
